Bodies & chassis

Understand the two parts of a working vehicle.

A special-purpose vehicle combines a chassis with a body and working equipment. Review both parts together when preparing a specification.

The chassis

The chassis provides the cab, engine, drivetrain and running gear. Brand, wheelbase, axle layout and payload requirements belong in the configuration brief.

The body and working system

The body determines the vehicle’s job: for example, an insulated box, tank or waste-handling body. The body and equipment must be considered alongside the chassis and intended operation.

Before considering a separate body

Provide the existing chassis details and installation requirements for review. A body-only supply scope and installation arrangement need sales confirmation before they can be specified.
